Ice fishing

Here in Michigan, Ice fishing is a big thing, from the middle of Lake Erie to the shallows of small local lakes, everyone seems to do it. This year, I am going to try it out. I am planning on making an order from Bass Pro Shop of around 100 dollars, including a set of jigs, gulp wax worms, a manual auger, and a ice fishing pole. I will also be purchasing a nice video camera also here soon, so I will be getting videos out on a youtube channel. Now, if you read this far, you are in for a treat. I have been lucky enough to get a bunch of free baits from a member at thebasscollege.com and now would like to give some away. Rules-1. you must be subscribed to this blog. 2. you must comment on this saying your favorite technique for bass fishing is. 3. you must email me at j.wyman2323@gmail.com saying your best ice fish bait, and if you don't ice fish, your favorite freshwater bait. Best comment and email win!

RC Tackle

With the tackle companies expanding, you have to have a company you can trust. Recently I have discovered a company called RCTackle.com. From jigs to soft plastic craws, they are a place you can trust. I ordered 50 soft plastic craws, and I was talking to the marketing manager, Glen Walker, and he gave me a discount along with a free jig and swim bait. The crawdads that I got, I fell in love with right away. With a spot in the head for rattlers and weights, and claws that move like no other, they catch fish like you wouldn't believe. They also sent me a black and blue jig, which had red eyes, and an amazingly painted head. 5 hours of fishing, and no chips at all. The swim bait they sent me was unbelievable. 5 fish in 5 minutes, no joke. With eyes that looked so real, and great detail it simply caught fish. Please check them out, and don't hesitate to email them, they will give bulk deals. If you find a better deal online, let me know.

Split Cork vs Full Cork

There are many variations of rods on the market today. But no matter what kind you get, jig rod, swim rod, plastic rod, or any other rod, they will all either have split cork or full cork. The higher end rods will most likely have split cork. I think split cork is mostly for looks, but also gives you a little better sensitivity. I have rods with both, and I prefer split cork for 3 reasons. One, it looks better. 2 it gives me better sensitivity so I can feel the smallest bites. And 3, it takes weight off of the rod, while keeping balance in the rod. For me, there are very few benefits to full cork, one could say they are better because they are more balanced, but I don't believe that, and someone could also argue that they are better just because they are cheaper. I know of 3 rods that are the exact same specifications, but are about 50 dollars difference just because of the split cork. Everyone has preferences, and this is what I think about split corks and full corks.

St. Croix Mojo Bass Rod

The St. Croix Mojo Bass rod is not among the most popular in rods. It is a very underrated casting rod in my opinion. At a price of 100$ you can't go wrong. I was talking to Steve Von Brant, from The Bass College (thebasscollege.com) and he suggested this one to me over everything else that is 100$. I got the 6 foot 6 jig'n worm. I am very impressed with the rod so far. Paired with my US reel, review to come later, it is unbeatable. I chose this one because it is the most versatile. With the spit cork and fast tip, every little bite is felt. My two choices were the Mojo Bass or the Abu Garcia Veritas, which is also 100 dollars. I got to test them both, and the Mojo bass was definitely the one for me. If you are on a budget, and want a rod that competes with the highest priced rods, the Mojo Bass is for you.
